Targeted repair: a stain, an etch, a chip, or a localized dull patch.

For localized damage: a wine ring, a scratch, a small etch, a chipped edge, or a single dull patch. We assess the damaged area, polish or repair as needed, and reseal. Best when the rest of the surface is in good condition and only one or two spots need attention.

Whole-surface diamond polish and reseal. The most common scope.

Comprehensive restoration of a countertop, floor area, vanity, or stone surface. Full diamond polishing pass to restore the depth and shine, a fresh impregnating sealer across the whole surface, and a detail pass on visible imperfections. The right choice when the granite has aged across the entire piece. Edge refinishing is a separate add-on, quoted when needed; not included in the standard scope.

Why DIY sprays don't fix aged granite

Why granite needs occasional restoration.

Granite is durable but not maintenance-free. The impregnating sealer that protects it from staining wears off over years of cleaning, cooking, and daily use. Once the sealer is gone, etching from acidic foods (wine, citrus, vinegar) becomes permanent, and the surface starts to look dull. Restoration fixes both: re-polish to remove the dullness, reseal to prevent it from coming back.

DIY sprays are not bad for in-between cleaning. They are bad as a substitute for a real restoration when the granite has actually aged.

Restore or replace?

Most granite damage is restorable. Some isn't, and we'll tell you.

Granite is forgiving compared to marble. The vast majority of what looks like "I need new countertops" is actually surface-level and comes back with diamond polishing and a fresh sealer. Here's how we think about it before the truck even rolls.

How we install your granite restoration, step by step.

Same approach on every granite project. The difference between a granite that ages gracefully and one that has to be replaced is the prep behind the sealer.

    In-home assessment or phone estimate

    Standard path: in-home visit, surface assessment, fixed written quote on the right scope. No salesperson pressure, no follow-up call campaigns. Faster option: a ballpark over the phone. With 30+ years of restoration work behind the answer, the phone number lands close on most jobs. The final on-site quote is the price that holds, and you are under no obligation to proceed if the on-site number differs.

    Mask and protect surrounding surfaces

    Cabinets, walls, appliances, and floors near the work area get masked off. Granite work involves polishing slurry, so containment is part of the install.

    Repair localized damage

    Chips, deep scratches, and edge damage get filled and shaped before the polishing pass. On Spot-scope work, this step alone may be the whole project.

    Diamond polishing pass

    Variable-speed diamond polishing across the surface using progressive grit. This is the step that removes etching, restores depth, and brings back the original finish.

    Detail pass on visible imperfections

    Final inspection across the polished surface and a targeted detail pass on any remaining minor imperfections (light scratches, residual dull spots). Edge refinishing is an extreme process not included in the standard scope; if your edges need rework, we quote it separately at the in-home assessment.

    Impregnating sealer and walk-through

    Fresh impregnating sealer applied across the whole surface and worked in. Final walk-through with you on the restored granite. Care guide for the first 30 days and a recommendation for the right re-seal cadence.

Common Questions

Common questions about granite restoration.

Can you really remove etching from granite?
Yes. Etching is surface damage where acidic foods or cleaners have eaten into the polished layer. Diamond polishing physically removes the damaged layer and restores the finish underneath. Most granite responds well; very deep etching may need multiple passes.
What makes the HydroShield protection better than retail granite sealers?
Retail granite sprays are oils or silicones that sit on top of the stone. They wash off in days or weeks of normal cleaning, and they don't address etching at all. HydroShield is a molecular-bond coating: it chemically anchors into the granite's surface so liquids bead up instead of soaking in, hard-water residue cannot anchor into the pores, and the stone is significantly easier to wipe clean without harsh chemical cleaners. It's a licensed, pro-only product; you cannot buy HydroShield at a hardware store or online, only through certified dealers. Clear View is a licensed HydroShield dealer, applies it as the final step of every full restoration, and backs the HydroShield application with a 10-year written warranty.
How often should I re-seal my granite?
Depends on the granite type and how heavily it's used. Most kitchen counters need a fresh sealer every 1 to 3 years. We can recommend the right cadence after seeing your specific surface.
Do I need to clear the counters before you arrive?
Yes. The work surface needs to be completely cleared, including small appliances, items behind the sink, and anything on the cooktop. We'll go over the prep at the in-home estimate so nothing's a surprise.
What about the kitchen sink area?
Granite around sinks tends to age fastest because of the constant moisture. Full restoration includes the sink-area surfaces. Granite sinks themselves can also be restored; we'll evaluate them at the estimate.
How long does a typical kitchen restoration take?
Most single-kitchen jobs are 4 to 8 hours on site. Larger projects or floors run longer. We schedule with you so the kitchen is back in service the same day or by the next morning at most.
Will the granite look different after restoration?
It should look like the granite did the day it was installed: full color depth, polished finish, clean edges. If anything, it usually reads as 'newer' than it did before. We never change the color or finish style without your direction.
Is restoration worth it vs replacement?
Almost always. A single granite countertop run typically costs $4,000 to $15,000 to replace. Restoration is a fraction of that and avoids the demo, plumbing disruption, and downtime. The conversation we have at the in-home assessment is honest: if the granite truly can't be restored, we'll tell you.
Can you restore granite that has cracks?
Hairline cracks can usually be filled and stabilized. Active cracks or structural damage are different. We'll assess honestly at the in-home visit and tell you whether restoration is the right path.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Every restoration includes a written limited warranty. Full Surface restorations that finish with HydroShield are backed by a 10-year written warranty on the HydroShield sealer application; Spot Restoration warranty terms are narrower. David walks through the warranty document at the in-home estimate.
