An outdoor patio coating has to do two things a garage floor doesn't: hold color under UV and stay bonded through 60-degree winter-to-summer swings. We use UV-stable polyaspartic topcoats and flexible urethane systems on every outdoor install. The patio looks finished, not painted, and stays that way past year ten.

Patios are tougher than garages on a coating: UV all summer, freeze-thaw all winter, water sitting on horizontal surfaces. The systems we install outdoors are picked specifically for that exposure.

Penetrating sealer. Protects the concrete, keeps the natural look.

A silane-siloxane penetrating sealer for patios where you want the concrete look preserved. Sheds water, blocks salt and de-icer damage, doesn't change the appearance. Right for stamped or decorative concrete you don't want to cover.

Why we don't install epoxy outdoors

Why most outdoor patio coatings fail in Minnesota.

Two failure modes dominate: yellowing (epoxy under UV) and cracking (rigid film over a slab that moves with the seasons). Both are coating chemistry problems, not installation problems. Polyaspartic solves the yellowing. Flexible urethane solves the cracking. We don't install rigid epoxy on outdoor concrete, period.

How we install your patio coating, step by step.

Outdoor concrete is unforgiving of cut corners. Same prep, same chemistry, same checklist every install.

    In-home assessment + written quote

    Visit the patio, measure, check existing condition (cracks, prior coatings, stains, edge spalling), and write a fixed quote on the tier that fits.
  2. 2

    Diamond-ground prep

    Full diamond grinding to open the concrete profile. On outdoor slabs this is especially important; weathered surfaces look smooth but the coating won't bond without proper mechanical prep.
  3. 3

    Crack and joint repair

    Hairline cracks filled and tooled flat. Expansion joints prepped to handle the seasonal slab movement underneath the coating.
  4. 4

    Basecoat application

    Polyurea or flexible urethane basecoat depending on tier. Rolled and back-rolled at full thickness for even coverage.
  5. 5

    Decorative element + UV topcoat

    On Ultimate tier: decorative flake broadcast, scraped flat after cure. Then polyaspartic UV-stable topcoat seals the system. This is what makes the difference outdoors.
  6. 6

    Walk-through + warranty packet

    Final walk-through, written warranty, care guide for the first month. Walk on the patio at 24 hours.

Common Questions

Common questions about patio coating.

Will the patio be slippery when wet?
Decorative flake adds texture to the surface so wet traction is comparable to bare textured concrete. For pool decks and high-slip-concern areas, we can add an aggregate to the topcoat for additional grip. Brought up during the estimate.
How does it handle Minnesota winter?
The polyaspartic UV topcoat is rated for full freeze-thaw cycling. Salt and ice melt don't damage it. Snow shovels are fine. Sharp metal blades (sleds with metal runners) can scratch the topcoat just like they would any finished surface.
What about the rest of the year? Will it fade?
No. Polyaspartic is UV stable, meaning the topcoat doesn't yellow, chalk, or fade. This is the chemistry difference vs epoxy. Color holds for the life of the coating.
Can I have a custom color?
Yes. Decorative flake comes in dozens of standard color blends, and we mix custom blends on request. Brought to your in-home estimate as samples so you can see them on the patio before committing.
What if my patio has cracks?
Hairline cracks get filled during prep. Larger active cracks get evaluated; either repaired as part of the install (Apex tier handles them best) or, if the slab needs more substantial work, we say so honestly.
How long does an outdoor install take?
Most patios are 1-day installs. Larger or multi-level patios run into a second day. Weather has to cooperate; we don't install on rainy days or below curing temperatures.
When can I put furniture back?
24 to 48 hours for furniture, depending on weight and topcoat cure. Plant pots and grills go back in 48. Heavy stone or built-in features in 72.
Can I coat a stamped or decorative patio?
Yes, but the Essential penetrating sealer is usually the right tier. A film coating covers the stamped pattern; if you want to preserve the decorative look, the sealer protects it without changing the appearance.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Written limited warranty, terms vary by tier, walked through during the in-home estimate so you know exactly what's covered.
