Where the exposure is real, a coating puts a chemically stable barrier between the salt and the concrete and stops the freeze-thaw-with-salt cycle that produces the pitting in the first place.
Our house is near the lake. Does that affect the basement floor?
It affects which system, which is why we test rather than assume. Lake-adjacent lots sit closer to groundwater and their slabs push more vapor. A film coating over a slab pushing vapor lifts off the floor eventually. High readings get a penetrating sealer that seals while letting the slab breathe; the higher ground toward Holy Name and Watertown Road usually tests normal and takes the film system.
Can you remove etching from marble?
Yes. Etching is a chemical reaction that damages the top layer of marble. Progressive polishing physically lifts that layer and exposes the unaffected stone underneath. The marble comes back to its original finish.
Can you change my polished marble to a honed finish (or vice versa)?
Yes. Because the restoration physically resurfaces the stone with diamond abrasives, the sheen is set by which grit we stop on. How do I avoid etching after restoration?

How often should marble be resealed?
More often than granite. Most marble counters benefit from a fresh sealer every 1 to 2 years; bathroom marble closer to 6 to 12 months in heavy-use bathrooms. We recommend a maintenance cadence at the end of any restoration.
Will white marble look as white after restoration?
Yes. Restoration brings the marble back to its original color and finish. If the marble was discolored from old sealer residue, restoration actually makes it brighter than before, not duller.
Can you match the existing finish style?
