Patio Coating in Mound, Minnesota.

Mound wraps around the western bays of Lake Minnetonka, and the shoreline defines the city. Streets follow the water rather than a grid, lots are irregular, and a large share of the housing began life as seasonal lake property before being converted to year-round homes. Patio coating for Mound homes. UV-stable topcoats so the color holds, flexible chemistry so freeze-thaw movement doesn't crack the film, full diamond-ground prep on every job. Mound has the most unusual housing profile in the service area. Much of Island Park, Three Points and the older shoreline was built as 1920s through 1950s summer cottages and converted to year-round use later, which means garages that were added decades after the house, frequently detached, often unheated and sometimes on slabs poured directly on lake-adjacent ground. Shirley Hills and Highland hold more conventional postwar and 1970s stock. Teardown-and-rebuild has been steady on the waterfront for twenty years, so brand-new construction sits next to converted cottages on the same block.

Patio Coating in Mound

What an install looks like in Mound.

Mound is a moisture city. Being wrapped around Lake Minnetonka's western bays means a lot of slabs sit close to groundwater, and that single fact drives more of the technical conversation here than anywhere else Clear View works. Basement floors get a moisture reading before anything is quoted, and a meaningful share of them come back high enough that a film coating is the wrong answer. The garages tell the other half of the story: converted cottages with detached, unheated garages added long after the house, on slabs of unknown vintage and quality. Then on the same street there will be a 2015 teardown rebuild with a clean three-car slab. Both are normal bookings; they just need different answers.

Patio Coating specifically in Mound

Lakeside patios in Mound take sun, moisture and freeze-thaw on ground that moves more than upland ground does, so the Apex flexible tier and its crack-bridging is the usual pick. The UV-stable topcoat holds color through full summer exposure. Slip resistance matters more here than in most cities because patios near the water get wet regularly. Patios schedule March through November.

Why we don't install epoxy outdoors in Mound

Why most outdoor patio coatings fail in Minnesota.

Two failure modes dominate: yellowing (epoxy under UV) and cracking (rigid film over a slab that moves with the seasons). Both are coating chemistry problems, not installation problems. Polyaspartic solves the yellowing. Flexible urethane solves the cracking. We don't install rigid epoxy on outdoor concrete, period.

Outdoor epoxy Common but wrong for Minnesota
  • Yellows within the first summer
  • Rigid film cracks with freeze-thaw
  • Lifts at edges where water sits
  • Re-coat needed in 3 to 5 years
Polyaspartic + flexible urethane What we install outdoors
  • UV stable: no yellowing
  • Flexible chemistry rides out slab movement
  • Diamond-ground prep for full bond
  • 10+ year lifespan realistic

If a patio quote you got somewhere else is for epoxy, ask what UV warranty comes with it. The answer tells you whether the installer is selling chemistry that fits or a system they buy by the pail.

The 6-step install

How we install your floor in Mound.

Outdoor concrete is unforgiving of cut corners. Same prep, same chemistry, same checklist every install.

  1. 1

    In-home assessment + written quote

Visit the patio, measure, check existing condition (cracks, prior coatings, stains, edge spalling), and write a fixed quote on the tier that fits.
  2. 2

    Diamond-ground prep

Full diamond grinding to open the concrete profile. On outdoor slabs this is especially important; weathered surfaces look smooth but the coating won't bond without proper mechanical prep.
  3. 3

    Crack and joint repair

Hairline cracks filled and tooled flat. Expansion joints prepped to handle the seasonal slab movement underneath the coating.
  4. 4

    Basecoat application

Polyurea or flexible urethane basecoat depending on tier. Rolled and back-rolled at full thickness for even coverage.
  5. 5

    Decorative element + UV topcoat

On Ultimate tier: decorative flake broadcast, scraped flat after cure. Then polyaspartic UV-stable topcoat seals the system. This is what makes the difference outdoors.
  6. 6

    Walk-through + warranty packet

Final walk-through, written warranty, care guide for the first month. Walk on the patio at 24 hours.

Mound questions

Common questions for Mound homeowners.

My Mound house is close to the lake. Can the basement floor be coated?
Maybe, and the moisture reading decides it rather than the address. Slabs near the Lake Minnetonka shoreline sit close to groundwater and push more vapor than an upland slab. A film coating over a slab pushing vapor will lift off the floor over time, which is a failure we would rather prevent than warranty. High readings get a penetrating sealer that seals the concrete while letting it breathe. We test before quoting, every time, in this city especially.
The garage was added to the cottage in the 1960s. Is that slab coatable?
Often yes, once we have seen it. Garages added to converted lake cottages were built to whatever standard applied at the time, sometimes on ground that has since moved, and there is rarely any record. We check for settlement, deep cracking and moisture before quoting. Sound slabs coat well. Slabs that have moved get an honest recommendation for concrete work first.
Can you coat an unheated detached garage in Mound in the winter?
Sometimes, and it depends on the week. Polyurea and polyaspartic cure across a wider temperature range than epoxy, which widens the window considerably, but an unheated detached garage in deep winter still has limits. We would rather schedule it into a workable window than promise a date and install outside product spec. Off-peak scheduling from November through March is usually easier to get regardless.
Do you drive out around the lake for a single project?
Yes. Mound is eighteen miles from Chaska, roughly twenty-eight to thirty-four minutes around the lake on Hwy 7, and it is inside the standard service area with no travel adjustment in the quote. The drive around Lake Minnetonka is longer than the straight-line distance suggests, which is worth knowing when you are comparing scheduling windows.
Will the patio be slippery when wet?
Decorative flake adds texture to the surface so wet traction is comparable to bare textured concrete. For pool decks and high-slip-concern areas, we can add an aggregate to the topcoat for additional grip. Brought up during the estimate.
How does it handle Minnesota winter?
The polyaspartic UV topcoat is rated for full freeze-thaw cycling. Salt and ice melt don't damage it. Snow shovels are fine. Sharp metal blades (sleds with metal runners) can scratch the topcoat just like they would any finished surface.
What about the rest of the year? Will it fade?
No. Polyaspartic is UV stable, meaning the topcoat doesn't yellow, chalk, or fade. This is the chemistry difference vs epoxy. Color holds for the life of the coating.
Can I have a custom color?
Yes. Decorative flake comes in dozens of standard color blends, and we mix custom blends on request. Brought to your in-home estimate as samples so you can see them on the patio before committing.
What if my patio has cracks?
Hairline cracks get filled during prep. Larger active cracks get evaluated; either repaired as part of the install (Apex tier handles them best) or, if the slab needs more substantial work, we say so honestly.
How long does an outdoor install take?
Most patios are 1-day installs. Larger or multi-level patios run into a second day. Weather has to cooperate; we don't install on rainy days or below curing temperatures.
When can I put furniture back?
24 to 48 hours for furniture, depending on weight and topcoat cure. Plant pots and grills go back in 48. Heavy stone or built-in features in 72.
Can I coat a stamped or decorative patio?
Yes, but the Essential penetrating sealer is usually the right tier. A film coating covers the stamped pattern; if you want to preserve the decorative look, the sealer protects it without changing the appearance.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Written limited warranty, terms vary by tier, walked through during the in-home estimate so you know exactly what's covered.
